Having The Right Vision And Mission

Life is not supposed to be like a cruise-to-no-where which has no specific destination and no intended direction.

We are certainly not created by Allah s.w.t to go to “nowhere” or for “no reason”. Allah s.w.t says in the Quran

أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا

Then did you think that We created you uselessly? (Al-Mu’minuun 23:115)

It’s very clear that we inherently have a specific vision to achieve in this life.

A vision specifies what we want to become or achieve in the future, while a mission clarifies the reason or purpose for our existence in this world (that is, to achieve the vision).

The Importance of Having Our Life Vision and Mission Clear and Accurate

1. Sense of Direction

If we are the football players, we would already know that the direction is between the two poles of the team’s goal (not the other team’s). If we are on a road trip, we would already know where are we heading, though we are not even there yet.

With such a sense of direction, we are more confident in what we are doing and we will always look forward to doing something in line with our vision and mission here, and in the hereafter.

2. Clarity of Priorities in Life

It would be easier to define the things that are of priority in our life against what is not, including what to invest in, what to be worried about, and what to think about (and not to).

It is also harder to be wasting another minute, the energy, and this life we have — when we are clear of our priorities.

3. Clarity of the Meaning of Happiness and Success in Life

None of us is destined to fail but the ones who fail to define the real meaning of success or happiness (that is, based on a clear and accurate vision and mission).

Maybe that’s the reason why there are people who were so successful in this world but still ended up with suicidal thoughts.

Each of us has a different definition of success and happiness but if we are not clear of the real meaning for ourselves, it’s going to be like seeing a mirage — we thought we see what we think it is when in reality it’s not.

That would be an aimless thing to do unless we know how to follow through.

4. Able to Make Fast and Accurate Decisions

It would be way easier for us to make decisions or escape indecisiveness if we already have a clear direction and clear priorities from the right vision and mission.

5. Source of Strength in Life

Knowing that our vision and mission are in line with Allah’s decree and that we are having the right principles provides the courage and confidence we need as the source of strength in this challenging life.

If we have faith in His consent, He will definitely provide us the way out no matter how challenging life is.

Conclusion

Having a clear and accurate life vision and mission leads to a guided life here and in the hereafter.

As humans and ultimately as the servants of Allah s.w.t. we might not really know what is best for us, but we should not give in and keep supplicating for His guidance.

According to Jabir ibn Abdullah, The Messenger of Allah, p.b.u.h., would supplicate by saying:

The Prophet p.b.u.h also taught us to qualify anything we ask for in the world with the condition that it should not harm our life in the Hereafter.

May Allah s.w.t. guide us to the straight path.
