With that being said, it is very difficult to come across an individual who can be described as frank. Often the ways of human interaction are assiciated with careful, dishonest and tactful communication. In many cases people have described being tactful and careful in life will get them further than bring frank. But how did this virtue that entices honesty become so lowly regraded?

Evolution has evolved in such a way that humans have become selective in what they like to hear. Picture yourself having spent hours getting ready for an event. You are running late but you believe you look stunning in that outfit. If someone was to be frank and honestly tell you they dislike your outfit and it makes you look tushy, you would rather them have not said anything at all. As we live in an age where it can be regarded as ill-mannered to speak one’s truthful thoughts, we have become careful and almost dishonest in what we say. We become angered by opinions that are unsought. Thereby honesty are often replaced by white lies.

Home truths described by Grayling here describes what an individual thinks or claims as the truth but often does not reflect reality. These home truth’s are often just someone’s opinion that is offered in a case of anger or jealousy. When such acts of bluntness is confused with frankness, it tarnishes the virtue that is essential for building relationships between both friend and lovers.
