A practical guide to creating a collective envisioned future

In the last couple of weeks, the topic of a shared future came up in more than a handful of conversations with leaders. Having gone through a few different versions of the same chat, I thought I…

Comparing Interfaces

Virtual Reality:

A redesigned version of snake in virtual reality could be done by using the center of the users line of sight as the head of the snake. The user would have to turn their body and neck to direct the snake. A possible issue with this interface would be the inability to limit the snakes speed unless you add a max speed making the snake have to catch up to the user line of sight on occasion. Another possible issue with this interface may be the risk of injury. To limit the risk of injury it would be best to allow the users to play the game without having to move more than a few inches from their starting location.

Pro:

Virtual Reality allows the user to be immersed in a full 3D experience rather than the traditional 2D display on a screen.

Con:

The main element of the game that as the snake gets longer it becomes more difficult to survive may worked around by the user because of the lack of a limited speed.

Shareable:

A shareable version of snake could be the same look and controls as the original version but will the ability to have multiple players playing in the same game all with their own snakes to control. The game could have up to four players and instead of survival being the goal, it would be whoever can collect the most dots with a certain time. If a player runs into another snake they are immobilized for a moment and the player they ran into steals one of their dots. A potential issue with this game would be the unfair nature of the random spawn location of the dots.

Pro:

Multiple players can play the game at once.

Con:

Because the of the change of rules the game would require at least two players in order to play the game.

Wearable:

A version of snake with a wearable interface could be done as another multiplayer based game. In this version players would all wear Velcro gloves and must be in a open space. Two players are initially the team leaders with all other players roaming the open space. When the game begins the team leaders use their Velcro gloves to grab another player and then that play must be the next to grab a player. Whichever team’s snake is longest when there are no more players left wins the game. A potential issue with this interface is the difficulty to gather enough players to play a substantial round. Another potential issue is the reliability of Velcro. The gloves may not have a long enough lifetime for the purchase to be worth it.

Pro:

This interface incorporates fitness for its users.

Con:

The game requires many players and equipment for each player.
