Tim McClimon

Running for Iowa’s 97th House District

Tim McClimon was a parole officer in Clinton County, Iowa, for 38 years. He has “seen firsthand how important smart investments in critical public services are to the health and prosperity of our communities.” Tim worked hard in his job and through volunteering to maintain Iowa’s status as a great place to live. He is a founding member of the Clinton County Justice Coordinating Committee. CCJCC works to mitigate issues faced by the courts and to evaluate alternative sanctions. They also advocate for mental health and substance abuse services for individuals in the justice system.

Tim articulates the value of investing in services and infrastructure. He highlights the costs of the legislature’s tax cuts. In just five years. the state’s record $927 million budget surplus turned into a $260 million budget deficit.

Tim’s opponent, Norlin Mommsen, has been on board with his fellow Republicans as they defunded or privatized essential services like Medicaid. He sponsored a voter ID bill in 2015 and then voted for the 2017 law that instituted identification requirements to vote. Mommsen also voted in favor of the 6-week abortion ban.
