I Am Completely Lost In Life

But I guess that’s OK

There is the constant pressure from society to have it all figured out. Maybe, you are pressuring yourself to have it, too.

You look at all those people on the streets, in cafes, on Instagram, on the cover of fancy business magazines and you think to yourself:

The reality is, of course, is that they don’t. Nobody has got it all figured out. Everyone is just making their best guess.

You know this, of course. But deep inside, you start doubting yourself every time you see someone else’s success. You become jealous of other people’s happiness and wish you could have some of that to yourself, too.

I know how you feel. I am in the same place right now. I am with you. I am not ashamed to say, that I am completely fucking lost. I am stuck and I don’t know where to go next.

And you know what I realized recently? (As of, yesterday, actually)

It’s OK to be lost. Here is why.

What you see on Instagram, on the covers of those fancy magazines are all elaborate lies.

Think about it.

Media (i.e. magazines, online publications like TechCrunch, Entrepreneur, FastCompany) need eyeballs. Their main asset is attention. Will they attract eyeballs by talking about spectacular failures? Not as much as talking about other people’s successes.

They want you to hope that by reading their latest article about a startup that raised gazillion amount of dollars, you’ll discover the secrets to success. But you don’t, so you continue reading.

And more. And more. And then some.

I once lived in Silicon Valley. It was when I was a kid, and only for 2 years. But I still visit my friends and attend various entrepreneurship conferences when I am in town. Everyone who visited the Valley knows one aspect about it.

You feel like a total failure there.
